Kelly J. McGuire

 

Kelly was born in Gibraltar on 14 November 1980 and brought up in a bilingual English-Spanish environment. Moved to the United Kingdom in 1999 to study for a BA in Modern Chinese Studies at the University of Leeds and went on to do an MA in Conflict Resolution at the University of Lancaster in 2003. Worked as a trainee graduate librarian for a year at the Taylor Institution Library, one of the main academic libraries of the University of Oxford. Moved to Taiwan in October 2005 to be with her Dutch partner who was offered a year’s contract at Hsinchu Science Park and is currently enjoying the chance to brush up on her long-neglected Chinese.

Her main interests are learning languages, Chinese, Egyptian and South American archaeology, video games, reading (mostly non-fiction), spending obscene amounts of time on the Internet and travelling.

She is also an aspiring writer, although she is still trying to find her ‘voice’, and hopes to become a professional Chinese-to-English translator some day.
