Here I stand, looking into your daunting merciless eyes.

“Mirror, mirror”

I repeat the perpetual words of fate; voices, tauntings.

Always less than, never good enough;

awkward, ugly, weird, short.

A daunting cycle of perilous words lay before me.

Mirror you’ve led so many to self-destruction.

You should be ashamed.

So many lives...gone, destroyed.

So much self-esteem mutilated.

The onslot of abuse is constant.

“Why can’t I be pretty like my sister or my friends?”

I squander precious time thinking.

You reply in a harsh biting tone,

“Every time someone says you’re pretty it’s a lie.

They all feel bad for you.

No one will ever want you...the ugly duckling? Please!”

Crippled, breathless, broken & bruised I fall...

shattered beyond fathomable repair.

A tall figure walking by stops.

I look into His eyes, drowning in love unknown.

I’m speechless.

He picks me up and whispers,

“From now on, all the voices that said you aren’t good enough, that you’re ugly or strange, are silenced!

They don’t define you, I do.”

Screaming, crying out in pain,

you break as I shout my farewell.

Just a tool Satan uses on a daily basis to do deep damage.

Sometimes it feels like shards of you,

cut in places no one else could hurt.

Stabbing, ripping, shredding of confidence

are no longer the sounds i hear.

I give you no more power over me!

The image you’ve always projected of me

is no longer what I see.

I see what God sees in me,

beauty beyond compare.

Illumination fills my heart with sounds of shattering glass.
